Reps. Peter Roskam and Randy Hultgren, both of Illinois, were aboard the Amtrak train involved in a fatal collision with a truck in Virginia Wednesday, spokesmen for both confirmed.
"Congressman Roskam was on the train with his wife, Elizabeth," Roskam's office said, adding, "They are both fine."
"Randy was on the train and is not injured," a spokesman for Hultgren said in a statement.
"His family is back in Illinois. He asks for prayers for all involved, especially those on the truck and their families," Hultgren's office continued.
Roskam represents the 6th District in Chicago's western suburbs, while Hultgren represents the 14th District, directly west of Roskam's.
The train was carrying Republican members of Congress and their spouses to a party retreat when it hit a garbage truck around 11:20 a.m. ET, authorities said.
The crash took place in Crozet, Virginia, about 13 miles west of Charlottesville. One person in the truck was killed and another seriously injured, according to a spokeswoman for the Congressional Institute, the organization behind the conference.
Minnesota Rep. Jason Lewis was taken to an area hospital for a reported concussion, a source connected to senior leadership told NBC News, but it was not considered to be a serious injury.
Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., was on the train with his wife when "there was a sudden impact, a loud noise and everyone was jolted," he said on MSNBC.
"My wife who was in front of me, her cellphone went flying," he continued. "It was just uncomfortable for a few minutes and as we started realizing that everyone was okay I think people started feeling a little better."
Curbelo said there were some minor injuries but "most people are OK here."
Images from the scene showed damage to the Amtrak train and a warped, overturned truck surrounded by what appears to be garbage.
The incident remains under investigation by local law enforcement, Amtrak said in a statement. The United States Capitol Police was also at the scene and working with other law enforcement agencies, officials said.
