Chicago Police Investigating After Officer Involved Shooting

Chicago police are investigating after an officer-involved shooting on the city’s Southwest Side Sunday night.

Just after 8:30 p.m., police were conducting a traffic stop in the city’s Back of the Yards neighborhood. As officers were getting individuals out of the car, one of the men pushed an officer out of the way and took off running between trucks at the nearby Ashland Cold Storage facility in the 4300 block of South Ashland.

One of the officers opened fire, striking the man multiple times, according to authorities. The suspect was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition but is expected to survive.

No officers were injured in the incident.

COPA is investigating the shooting, and the officer involved has been placed on desk duty during the investigation, as per police policy.
