25 Shot and Wounded in MLK Day Weekend Shootings: Police

Over the holiday weekend, 25 people have been shot and wounded across the city of Chicago, according to police.

In the city’s most recent shooting, a 25-year-old man was shot in the 12300 block of South Union just after 6 p.m. Sunday evening, police said. The man suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and was taken to Christ Hospital. No one is in custody, according to authorities.

On Friday evening, two teens were shot in the 9300 block of South Colfax just before 9 p.m., police said. The victims were walking down a sidewalk when a dark colored sedan pulled up and one of the occupants opened fire, striking both.

A 17-year-old boy was shot in the right leg and is in stable condition at Christ Hospital. An 18-year-old man was shot in the abdomen and is in serious condition at Christ Hospital, and police say no one is in custody.

Early Saturday morning, three people were shot at a party in the 3900 block of West Arthington. The shooting occurred just after 4 a.m., and no one is in custody according to authorities.

An 18-year-old woman was taken to Stroger in serious condition with a gunshot wound to her neck. A 37-year-old man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the right side of his face. Another man was shot in the chest and back, and was taken to Mount Sinai in serious condition.

Friday:

  • A 25-year-old man was shot in the buttocks near the corner of Madison and Kilbourn at approximately 5:45 p.m. He was taken to Loretto Hospital in good condition, police said.
  • A 37-year-old man walked into Jackson Park Hospital with multiple graze wounds, police said. Further details were not made available, as the victim was uncooperative with authorities.
  • A 38-year-old man was shot in the back while standing on a sidewalk in the 4700 block of West Huron at approximately 9 p.m. The man was approached by another man, who opened fire. The victim is in serious condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
  • In the 2300 block of North Lawndale at approximately 9:19 p.m., a 24-year-old man was parking his car when an occupant in another vehicle opened fire. The victim was taken to Stroger Hospital in serious condition with a gunshot wound to his back, police said.

Saturday:

  • At a party in the 900 block of West 114th Place, a 19-year-old man was shot in the right arm at approximately 1:30 a.m. The man was taken to Christ Hospital in stable condition, police said.
  • A 27-year-old man was sitting in the drive-thru of a restaurant in the 1400 block of West 47th Street at approximately 4:39 a.m. when he was shot in the left armpit. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, police said.
  • A 16-year-old boy suffered gunshot wounds to his body while sitting in a car in the 6700 block of North Hermitage, police said. The boy was shot when an unknown man walked up to the car and opened fire. He was taken to St. Francis Hospital in stable condition, police said.
  • Two people were shot in the 5300 block of West North Avenue at approximately 8:25 p.m., police said. The victims were at a gathering when an altercation took place with an unknown man who opened fire. A 29-year-old man was shot in the head and was taken to Mount Sinai in stable condition, while a 25-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to her head and was taken to West Suburban Hospital in good condition.

Sunday:

  • Two men were shot while sitting in a car in the 2800 block of West 21st Street at approximately 12:40 a.m. One man was listed in serious condition at Mount Sinai, while the other is in stable condition at Saint Anthony’s.
  • Just after 6 p.m., a 25-year-old man was shot in the leg in the 12300 block of South Union. The man was taken to Christ Hospital, where his condition was not immediately known.
Monday:
  • Around 5:15 p.m., a 28-year-old man was shot while sitting in a parked car in the 9900 block of South Carpenter. The man told police he heard shots and felt pain. He drove himself to Christ Hospital where he was listed in serious condition with a gunshot wound to the back. 
  • A 26-year-old man was shot during an argument with another man in the 4700 block of West Lake Street. The vicitm was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition with a gunshot wound to the leg, according to authorities. 
  • Three people were shot just before 8 p.m. in the 4200 block of South Michigan Avenue. The three were standing in a courtyard when someone walked up and fired shots, police said. A 24-year-old man was shot in the leg and taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the arm and leg and taken to Mercy Hospital in stable condition. A 26-year-old man was shot in the right hand and also taken to Mercy Hospital in stable condition. 
Tuesday:
  • Just before 1 a.m., a 23-year-old man was walking on a sidewalk in the 1500 block of South Morgan when he told police he heard shots and felt pain. THe man was driven to Rush University Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the chest. 
  • About an hour later, two people were shot while sitting at a stoplight in a vehicle in the 5900 block of South Sacramento, police said. A 24-year-old woman was shot in the left elbow and suffered a graze wound to the back of her heard, according to authorities. A 22-year-old man was shot in the left leg and back. They drove themselves to Mount Sinai Hospital where they were listed in serious condition. The shooting is being investigated as possibly gang-related, authorities said.  

Unless otherwise noted, no one is in custody in any of these shootings.
