A Chicago man is accused of child endangerment after police said they found heroin and a 9mm handgun loaded with 16 rounds in his car while his 5-year-old daughter was in the backseat.
Armond Nelson, 32, was charged with armed violence, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and other narcotics-related charges, Cook County Sheriff Thomas J. Dart said.
Cook County Sheriff’s Police said investigators saw the drivers of two side-by-side vehicles conduct what looked like a hand-to-hand narcotics transaction. They pulled over the drivers and said Nelson refused to show his hands and tried hiding something.
During a search of the vehicle, police said an investigator found a clear plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine and heroin. A plastic bag containing heroin and $510 was in the man's front right pocket, police said.
The gun was found under the driver's seat, police said, and $2,000 was found in the car's center console, according to police.
Nelson's 5-year-old daughter was in the back seat during the incident, police said. The girl was later turned over to family members.
