Victim was in "serious but stable" condition as of 4:30 a.m.

A man was said to be in "serious, but stable" condition early Tuesday morning after being shot inside a nightclub on Chicago's near north side.

Chicago police said the 24-year-old man was involved in an argument with "several" males at about 3:15 a.m. inside the Hearts nightclub. The victim was near the exit of the club, at 1115 N. North Branch St., when he was shot in the chest, Ofc. Hector Alfaro said.

The man’s friend took him to Rush University Medical Center, and he was later transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Alfaro said.

The victim was in "serious but stable" condition as of 4:30 a.m., Alfaro said.

No one was in custody but police were investigating.
