Three firefighters were hospitalized while battling a blaze in Chicago's West Town neighborhood early Friday, officials said.

The fire broke out at around 2 a.m. in the 1100 block of West Grand Avenue, according to the Chicago Fire Department.

Authorities said two firefighters were taken to area hospitals for "heat-related" issues, suffering shortness of breath, while a third was taken to a hospital for an injured shoulder.

All three were in good condition, officials said.

Video of the blaze captured flames shooting from the two-story building where it began, before spreading to the four-story apartment building next door.

"The flames, they got pretty intense," said Russell Tijerina, who lives nearby.

"Once they put it out there so much smoke," he added. "It looked like it could have been bad.”

No other injuries were reported and none of the residents were displaced by the fire, which was struck out at around 3 a.m.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
