Cubs Place Eddie Butler on Disabled List

The Chicago Cubs announced Friday that they have placed pitcher Eddie Butler on the 10-day disabled list with a groin injury.

Butler, who has a 4.30 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitched, was roughed up in his last outing, giving up three runs and two walks without retiring a batter on Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals.

In his first relief outing of the season, Butler dazzled, giving up one run in seven innings of work against the Miami Marlins in an extra innings contest early in the season.

Butler will be replaced on the team’s roster by right-handed pitcher Luke Farrell, according to the Cubs. Farrell posted a 5.91 ERA in two starts with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs this season.
