Bears Fend Off Late Comeback, Beat Redskins

The Bears are now 2-1 as they head into a critical divisional showdown with the Vikings

The Chicago Bears managed to keep pace in the NFC North on Monday, beating the Washington Redskins and running their record to 2-1 on the season.

Mitchell Trubisky threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns in the game, and David Montgomery rushed for 67 yards as the Bears collected their second straight road victory.

The win helps the Bears keep pace in the NFC North, as the Packers, Lions, and Vikings all won in Week 3.

The Bears had a huge game defensively, forcing a total of five turnovers. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix picked off two passes, including one that he returned for a touchdown, and Khalil Mack had two sacks and two forced fumbles.

The Bears were bitten by the injury bug during the game, as wide receiver Taylor Gabriel left the contest with a concussion and defensive tackle Akiem Hicks left the game with a knee issue.

Before he left, Gabriel hauled in six catches for 75 yards and three touchdowns, making him only the third player in NFL history to catch three touchdown passes in the first half of a Monday Night Football game.

The Bears raced out to a 28-0 lead on the strength of three second-half touchdown passes by Trubisky. The quarterback, who hadn't thrown a touchdown pass yet this season, found Gabriel on a pair of short scoring throws during the second quarter, then threw an incredible pass down the sideline that Gabriel managed to haul in while keeping his feet in bounds for yet another score.

The Redskins did try to mount a comeback, scoring touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters, but the turnovers that plagued them throughout the game ultimately undid those efforts, as Case Keenum fumbled the ball on a 4th-and-short to ice the game for Chicago.

The Bears will now head home to take on the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field on Sunday afternoon.
