Neighbor says she heard seven or eight shots before man was found on the 2400 block of West Fillmore Street

A man was found shot to death Monday night on the West Side.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired about 10:45 p.m. found the unresponsive 29-year-old lying in the street in the 2400 block of West Fillmore Street with multiple gunshot wounds to the back, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

The man was dead at the scene, police said.

A neighbor said she heard seven or eight gunshots before police arrived.

"I was talking to a couple of friends. We didn't hear any commotion or anything. We just heard seven or eight shots and we were like, 'Oh, my God.' It came from the next block," said Jackie Rodrigues.

A vehicle near where the man was found had its windows shattered by bullets but it wasn't immediately clear if it was related to the case.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed a man died in the block did not release his name as of 5:30 a.m.

No one was in custody as detectives continued their investigation.
