Someone stole thousands of dollars worth of candy at McCormick Place Thursday evening, according to Chicago police.

The theft occurred at around 8:10 p.m. at a parking garage for the convention center, located in the 2300 block of South King Drive on the city's South Side.

Authorities said that during an event at McCormick Place, someone stole candy that was left unattended in the garage during loading.

Thursday marked the final day of the 2018 Sweets & Snacks Expo at the event space, according to the McCormick Place's website.

"Safety and security is of paramount importance to MPEA," a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, the company that owns the convention center, said in a statement, adding, "We are working closely with the Chicago Police Department as they investigate this incident."

Authorities were reviewing all surveillance footage as part of the investigation, the MPEA said.

It was not clear what kind of candy was taken, or to whom it belonged, but officials said its total value was approximately $18,000.

No one is in custody in connection with the theft as authorities continue to investigate.
