Thieves Take Nothing in Foiled Smash-and-Grab at Abt Electronics

The four offenders were confronted by a store employee after smashing a van into the store

An attempted smash-and-grab burglary at a suburban electronics store was foiled when a store employee confronted the burglars after they smashed a van into the building's glass doors.

Four offenders smashed a full-sized van into the interior and exterior glass doors of Abt Electronics in north suburban Glenview at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Glenview Police Sgt. Patrick Schuster. Police later said the van was a stolen vehicle.

After the crash, the offenders entered the store and were immediately confronted by an employee. They then fled the scene in a minivan without taking any merchandise, police said.

No one is in custody at this time.

UPDATE: Police on Thursday released surveillance footage of the crash:
