Reward Offered in Shooting Death of Teen

Teen is 28th CPS student killed by violence this academic year

Mayor Richard Daley and the Rev. Jesse Jackson are calling for tougher gun control laws in the wake of the latest fatal shooting of a Chicago Public Schools student.

Chicago Police Officer Daniel O'Brien said 14-year-old Gregory Robinson on Friday became the 28th CPS student killed this academic year. That's two more than the number of CPS students slain in all of last year.

Witnesses said Robinson was fatally shot in a car while returning from a basketball game.

Robinson wasn't the intended target of the shooting, officials said.

A $2,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to arrest of Robinson's killer or killers, officials said during a Sunday evening press conference.

Daley said people should be outraged about the number of guns on the street. Jackson echoed those comments at a press conference, saying a portion of federal stimulus funding should go toward preventing gun violence.
