A school official at a northwest suburban high school has been arrested for aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child, the school announced Thursday.
Officials at Guerin College Preparatory High School in River Grove said the school's assistant principal was arrested by Chicago police for allegations of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
The school said the assistant principal has been on administrative leave since the allegations first surfaced on Sept. 10.
Police could not immediately confirm the allegations against the school official, but said the special investigations unit was investigating the alleged criminal abuse of a 17-year-old boy in September in the 2600 block of North Sayre Avenue in Chicago. A 34-year-old man was arrested and charges were pending in the case, according to police news affairs.
School president Steve Baldwin said in a statement the alleged incident did not take place on the Guerin campus and the school is cooperating with Chicago police and the Department of Children and Family Services.
“Our commitment to the safety and education of all students at Guerin has always been and will continue to be our highest priority,” Baldwin said.
It was not immediately clear if the victim was a student at the school.

The Archdiocese of Chicago said in a statement it was aware of the situation and it was “properly reported to DCFS.”
“We are monitoring the situation and will continue to cooperate with the civil authorities,” the statement read.
The school said the assistant principal had served in the role for the last six years.
