Andrew Shaw Suspended for 3 Games

After more than 24 hours of consideration, the NHL handed down discipline to Blackhawks winger Andrew Shaw for his collision with Coyotes Goalie Mike Smith.

Shaw will miss three games for the hit, which you can watch here.

Brendan Shanahan, VP of Player Safety for the NHL, said goalies are off-limits from intentional hits.

After the game, Shaw explained he tried to avoid Smith's stick in the second period as he went for the puck behind the net. They made shoulder-to-head contact, leaving Smith in visible pain on the ice and Shaw ejected from the game.

Shaw said he didn't mean to hit him.

"I was just glad he's OK," he told reporters after the Hawks win.

The Coyotes said Smith felt back to normal after the game, but the goalie hasn't spoken out about the hit.

In the meantime, Shaw heads to a committee hearing Monday to find out if he faces any supplemental discipline.
