Toddler Dies After Being Struck by Fixtures at Orland Park Store: Police

Police told NBC 5 that the little girl was in the Orland Park store with her aunt when she was hit in the head by a store fixture

A 2-year-old girl was fatally injured at an AKIRA store in Orland Park Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a fixture inside the clothing store, authorities said.

According to the Orland Park Police Department, officials received a call that a female toddler was injured around 1:52 p.m. Tuesday inside the AKIRA store located inside the Orland Square Mall, at 104 Orland Square Drive.

Police told NBC 5 that the little girl was in the store with her aunt when she was hit in the head by a store fixture.

Orland Park officers, along with paramedics, arrived at the scene and provided medical treatment to the child, the statement read.

The little girl was then transported to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn for treatment, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.

"We are devastated by this tragic event," AKIRA co-owner Eric Hsueh said in a statement. "We are working to collect all the information."

An investigation is underway, and authorities said the identity of the victim is temporarily being withheld.

No other information was immediately known.
