Police say two suspects who broke into a Chicago store used city trash bins to haul away a treasure trove of luxury skincare products.
Bluemercury on Chicago’s North Side said rjust before sunrise Wednesday thieves dumped thousands of dollars of beauty products into two city trash bins and tossed the bins in a white pickup truck before fleeing, their surveillance footage showed.
A locksmith called to the scene called the break-in “surgical,” noting there was no broken glass and the thieves likely used a small saw on the business’ front door bolt.
The suspects targeted products from brands including La Mer and Trish McAvoy, the store’s manager said. The average vial of La Mer eye cream costs $200.
“Honestly I cried this morning... it’s sad,” said manager Jessica Sticker. “It’s really unfortunate. It’s luxury brands and they don’t really care for how we feel about it.”
This store was burglarized about five years ago and employees said it’s a trend they’ve also seen at their New York locations.
Chicago police said they are reviewing security video from the store. An investigation remained ongoing.
