The Supreme Court of Illinois is warning residents of Kendall County of a fraudulent jury duty scam that has targeted people in the western suburbs.
An individual calls a citizen and advises them that they missed scheduled jury duty and that a judge has issued an arrest warrant, according to a statement from the high court.
In one Kendall County case, the caller identified himself as “Captain David Allen” from the “Federal Warrant Division,” the statement said. The caller also provided the name of a sitting 23rd Circuit Court Judge as the jurist who issued the warrant.
The caller then advises the citizen that they can avoid arrest if they pay the “fine” immediately, then instructs the victim to obtain a prepaid credit card and call “Captain Allen” on the phone and read the numbers off the card.
