Southwest Suburban Teen Fatally Struck by Truck in New Lenox

A teenager was fatally hit by a truck as he crossed the street Friday in New Lenox, police said.

Officials said the accident happened shortly after 10 a.m. Friday near Lincoln-Way Central High School.

The 17-year-old from the southwest suburb of Manhattan was a student at the school, according to New Lenox Police. The Will County Coroner's office identified the teen as Dylan R. Wischover.

Police believe Wischover was in school earlier in the morning, but it was not clear why he was outside the school at the time of the crash.

“On behalf of the Lincoln-Way High School District 210, I want to extend our thoughts and prayers to the parents, family and friends of Dylan Wischover, who has lost his life in a tragic accident on Friday," District 210 Superintendent R. Scott Tingley said in a statement Friday. "Dylan had many friends at Lincoln-Way Central High School."

Police called the incident a "tragic accident" and said no charges were expected as the driver of the truck stopped after the crash, police said.The crash is under investigation.
