Two people were killed and a third person was wounded in a shooting on Chicago's West Side Wednesday morning, police said.
The shooting took place at about 9:53 a.m. in the 3400 block of West Ohio Street in the East Garfield Park neighborhood, Chicago Police Deputy Chief Al Nagode said at a news conference at the scene.
Authorities said four people were standing on the northeast corner of North St. Louis Avenue and West Ohio Street when a car pulled up and at least two people got out and opened fire on the group.
"Without provocation, no words exchanged that we know of, we have at least two individuals that get out of the vehicle and begin firing their weapons," Nagode said.
Three people were shot, officials said, with two pronounced dead at the scene.
The two people killed were both believed to be men around 19 years old, according to police. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatalities and further details, including the victims' identities, were not available.
The third person struck was a 29-year-old man who was shot in the chest, according to police. Officers pulled over a car that was leaving the scene to find the third gunshot victim inside, Nagode said. He was taken in critical condition to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital, where he was undergoing surgery Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

"This is an area that's known as an open-air drug market with a historic gang conflict in the area," Nagode said, adding that officers assigned to the area heard the shots being fired.
"Right now we believe it's related to that but again, if this is personal in nature or if it's strictly related to the drug market, I can't tell you. The investigation will play that out," Nagode added.
Police said investigators had video of the incident, but were unsure of the quality of the video. Authorities said they believed the suspects' car was a white or gray four-door vehicle, but were seeking more surveillance footage to corroborate the details.
No one was in custody in connection with this shooting, according to police, who continue to investigate. Police said anyone with information about the shooting can contact them anonymously at chicagopolice.org.
The daytime shooting comes just hours after community leaders held a rally against violence in the city following a weekend incident that left children and revelers shot at a baby shower in the West Englewood neighborhood.
"That’s not normal and we cannot allow that to become normal for our children," said CPD Supt. Eddie Johnson.
Ten people were shot, one of them fatally, Tuesday in Chicago, marking the fourth consecutive day that the number of shooting victims rose to double digits.
