Second Man Charged in Murder of Woman, Her 5-Year-Old Son

Chicago Police arrested a second man in connection with the deaths of a mother and her son in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Larry Cox, 28, of the 1400 block of West 85th Street, was identified through a police investigation as one of the subjects that participated in the shooting and killing of 31-year-old Chevonne Brown and her 5-year-old son Sterling Sims in June.

He was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is expected in bond court Sunday.

Brown and Sims were found shot inside their home on the 5300 block of South Winchester Avenue around 3 a.m. June 28.

A hospitalized 18-year-old man was also charged in the shooting.

Police said Antonio Lewis of the 5500 block of South Winchester Avenue has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder

Police said Lewis also tried to shoot Brown's 11-year-old son but the gun malfunctioned.

Less than 24 hours after their bodies were found, Lewis was shot in the groin, back and neck while standing on a sidewalk near 28th and Arlington. He was taken to Mt Sinai Hospital.

Family members remember Brown as a dedicated mother who loved her boys.

"I'm in pain," Doris Sims said in June. "I'm in pain and I'm in shock, and I can't really describe it because I just buried my mother this past Saturday, so I'm still just trying to suffer and get over her death."
