School Bus Driver Allegedly Restrained, Molested Child: Cops

Boy, 5, attends kindergarten at Murray Language Academy

A 67-year-old school bus driver is in police custody for allegedly holding an elementary school boy against his will on a bus and sexually assaulting him during the school day Tuesday, police said.

The man has not yet been charged, police said, but he was arrested Wednesday morning, accused of assaulting a 5-year-old boy.

The child, a kindergarten student at Murray Language Academy, was taken to University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital in an unidentified condition.

Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said police were investigating an allegation of unlawful restraint that occurred between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

"It’s an ongoing investigation," Gaines said early Thursday.

Police said the bus, owned by Jewels Bus Company, was towed and taken in as evidence and the boy was being interviewed.  The company has not returned calls for comment.

A Chicago Police Special Investigations Unit is handling the case.
