Police Warn Residents of Chicago Church Burglars

Chicago Police are warning of burglars on the city’s South Side who are stealing from churches and schools.

Police say the offenders commit the crimes at various hours of the day, forcing entry into churches or schools and taking property.

Police recorded at last four churches and schools within a one-mile radius in the Back of the Yards neighborhood reported thefts this month.

The robberies took place during the early morning hours on Aug. 5 in the 5400 block of South Union Avenue, on Aug. 7 in the 5100 block of South Union Avenue, on Aug. 9 in the 5100 block of South Union Avenue and on Aug. 13 in the 5000 block of South Laflin Street.

Police recommend that residents and business owners keep their property well lit, report suspicious activity immediately, secure doors and windows, and repair broken windows, doors or locks immediately.

They also warn victims of these crimes not to touch anything and to call police immediately.
