Newlyweds Fernando Chaidez and Ricca Rivera were the first to tie the knot in Cook County in 2014.
The two had been dating for three years and were married by Cook County Clerk David Orr at the Daley Center early Thursday morning.
Chaidez told the Chicago Tribune that Rivera, who is a city worker, told him about the chance to be the county's first marriage of the year.
The North Side couple dug their car our of the snow and headed downtown to get in line by 6:15 a.m., the Tribune reported.
Rivera and Chaidez received flowers, gifts from local restaurants and a weekend stay at the Palmer House.
The newlyweds said Thursday’s wedding won’t be the only ceremony they have, and said they plan to have a church wedding in February.
