Masked Men Tie Up Workers in Failed ATM Theft

Thugs made off with nada

A pair of armed, masked men tied up six workers at a North Side scrap metal recycling plant with duct tape Wednesday morning in an attempted robbery.

The bandits were after an ATM that is used by employees to pay customers for scrap metal deposits, but were unsuccessful. The ATM proved to heavy and the men fled with nothing.

The bound workers managed to free themselves afterward and called police.

Workers at the plant were visibly shaken after the incident.

Xavier Romera, a regular at the plant, said what the men did was horrible.

“Those are nice guys [working] in there,” Romera said.

Witnesses couldn’t give a description of the suspect, but said they drove off in a dark colored Jeep Cherokee.
