Police: Man Charged With Biting Off Another Man's Ear

Bond was set at $250,000 Sunday for a 28-year-old man who bit off a piece of another man’s ear during a domestic dispute Friday, police said.

Richard Vody, of the 7800 block of Garden Lane, was charged with one count of aggravated battery and one count of domestic battery after he allegedly bit off half of another man's ear during an argument Friday. Vody is currently out on bond.

Early Friday morning, police received a call about a domestic disturbance in the Maywood neighborhood.

Vody allegedly forced his way into the victim’s girlfriend’s home and began arguing with the 26-year-old victim, police said.

After arguing, Vody then leaned in and bit off half of the victim’s right ear, according to a press release from the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Details on his condition were not immediately known.

Officials and Chicago Police canine units located the missing piece of the victim’s ear Saturday near the residence.

Vody is expected to appear in court Tuesday.
