Seneca Marina Fire ‘Suspicious': Fire Chief

Cause of the fire that destroyed at least 17 boats is under investigation

The cause of the fire that destroyed more than a dozen boats and yachts Thursday in a marina in Seneca is being called "suspicious."

The boats had been covered up since October and therefore should not have caught fire, Seneca Fire Chief Jerry Sears told the Chicago Tribune.

The blaze started Thursday morning around 1:15 at the Spring Brook Marina in Seneca, according to the LaSalle County Sheriff's Department.

Though several fire agencies were on the scene assisting the fire department, at least 17 boats were damaged.
