Employee, 2 Customers Bound During Armed Robbery of Batavia AT&T Store

An employee and two customers were bound by two men during an armed robbery of an AT&T store in suburban Batavia Monday night.

Around 7 p.m., two African-American men entered the store at 201 N. Randall Road, announced a robbery and displayed a weapon, according to Batavia detective Kevin Bretz. An employee and three customers were inside the store at the time, Batavia police said.

The robbers then bound the employee and two of the customers at the back of the store and took cellphones and electronics before fleeing in a gray sedan driven by a third person, Bretz said.

Police have not released any surveillance footage.

"We have several good solid leads that we are working on now," Bretz said. "We are confident that those leads will lead to other information that hopefully will solve this case."

Recently, Aurora police released surveillance pictures of another armed robbery on Aug. 14 at an AT&T store in the 2300 block of North Farnsworth Avenue. In that case, the three armed suspects led all of the employees into a back room and then stole $33,000 worth of phones, tablets and other merchandise. Police said they escaped in a champagne- or gold-colored Chevy Blazer.

Bretz said his department is talking to the Aurora Police Department, but they are not connecting the two crimes at this time.
