Dog Owners in Far NW Suburb Warned About ‘Treats' With Nails in Them

Dog owners in a far northwest Chicago suburb are being warned after residents reported finding treats with nails inside on city sidewalks.

A Heart for Animals, Inc. posted to Facebook Saturday that a resident in the Hampshire area near Del Webb caught his dog eating a piece of lunch meat with peanut butter inside, only to find out the food had nails hidden inside.

The resident took the food out of the dog's mouth before he could swallow it, the post said.

The shelter said police were called to the area after a second treat was found.

Hampshire police confirmed they are investigating, but further details weren't immediately available.
