Chicago Students Prepare Farm-to-Table Feast for Neighbors

Chicago high school students have prepared a farm-to-table Thanksgiving feast for 300 senior citizens.

The Chicago Tribune reports the event on Tuesday brought together students from the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences and elderly residents of the Mount Greenwood neighborhood.

The magnet school's students served the sit-down meal in the school's gymnasium. All the food was raised on the school's 78-acre farm, including 16 turkeys.

Students in the food science program cooked the meal. Horticulture students created floral centerpieces. Woodworking students made cutting boards as gifts. The program is now in its fourth year.

Seventeen-year-old Hannah Mangan tells the Tribune her favorite part is meeting and talking with the older people in the neighborhood.
