Barge Began Sinking In Chicago River Wednesday

No injuries reported

A construction barge in the West Loop area of the Chicago River began taking on water Wednesday afternoon.

The police and fire departments reported to the scene to monitor the slowly sinking barge.

The barge, located at Canal and Adams, began taking on water early Wednesday afternoon, causing it to list dangerously. The police department's Marine Unit and Firefighters responded at a little before 1:30 p.m., fire department spokesperson Meg Alheim said.

After about an hour, all of the fire companies had left the scene, and no one connected to the incident had been injured, Alheim reported.

The construction company took over from the emergency personnel after about 2:25.
