6 Sickened in Indiana After Eating Cookies at Church

Police are sending a cookie for analysis after at least six people were hospitalized after eating from the batch after Mass at St. John the Apostle Church in Ellettsville.

Ellettsville Deputy Chief Tony Bowlen tells the Bloomington Herald-Times that the cookies were the only common factor among those who became ill. Authorities say the urine of those who were hospitalized tested positive for cannabinoids, which can be found in marijuana.

Those sickened were sent May 22 to IU Health Bloomington Hospital and were treated for symptoms including high blood pressure, anxiety, lethargy and paranoia. They were between the ages of 12 and 70.

Police say each of those who became sick said they were given a cookie by a fellow church attendee after Mass.
