3-Year-Old Chicago Boy's Death Ruled a Homicide

The death of a 3-year-old boy whose body was found on Chicago’s South Side Monday morning has been ruled a homicide, according to the medical examiner's office.

An autopsy found Tuesday that Tayveon J. Thomas died of multiple injuries due to child abuse, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

Tayveon was found just before 8:30 a.m. Monday at 122nd and Green in the city’s West Pullman neighborhood with “visible injuries on his body," police said.

He was taken to Roseland Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Department of Children and Family Services said it is investigating the parents after allegations of abuse were made. The department noted that it had not had prior contact with the family before those allegations.

Police said a death investigation remained ongoing.
