2nd Body Found in Shipping Canal After Boat Sank Earlier This Week

One body was found several miles downstream from the crash site

Illinois Department of Natural Resources officials have confirmed they’ve located a second body in the Chicago Sanitary and Shipping Canal after a boat sank in the water earlier this week.

According to officials, the body was found on Friday afternoon in the canal. The victim has not yet been identified by authorities, and rescue workers are looking for two additional victims who are reportedly missing after Wednesday’s boat crash.

Chicago police confirmed that a body had been found in the 4000 block of West 40th Street.

Earlier this week, a boat, reportedly carrying four people, sank before dawn Wednesday near Damen Avenue on the city’s Southwest Side.

A body was found Wednesday morning in suburban Forest View, approximately four miles downstream from where the boat was recovered. 32-year-old Elmer Jimenez was identified by authorities as the first victim of the accident.

Investigators with the Illinois Conservation Police are still investigating what caused the boat to sink.
