Bread, Milk and a Doctor's Appointment

Jewel-Osco opening clinic

If you're making that grocery list and headed to Jewel-Osco, you can now add immunizations and minor injuries next to the bread and milk.

Beginning later this month, the chain will open their first clinic staffed by doctors in suburban Orland Park.

The Jewel-Osco chain will open its first in-store health clinic in mid-August and will accept most major health care plans, according to the group who will be running it, Physicians Prompt Care Centers LLC.

While new for Jewel-Osco, clinics in grocery and drug stores has become a less expensive and more convenient way for families to get care for minor ailments. CVS has minute clinics in 24 states, including Illinois. Target and Wal-Mart have also opened clinics in select locations.

Jewel-Osco spokeswoman Cassi Richardson told the Sun-Times they may expand the idea to other stores around Chicago.
