Biden “Guarantees” No Changes to Social Security Under Obama

Vice President Joe Biden gave a Virgina crowd Tuesday his "guarantee" that he and President Obama would not allow any changes to Social Security. "I guarantee you, flat guarantee you, there will be no changes in Social Security," he told a group of mostly seniors gathered in a cafe. Mitt Romney has said that he would consider gradually raising the retirement age, but has not specified his own Social Security proposals. Since Romney selected Paul Ryan as his running mate, talk of the senior citizen vote has taken center stage. Paul Ryan's budget plan identifies changes to Medicare, that some say could cost the Republicans states like Florida, even though the changes would not affect anyone currently 55 and older. Ryan has said his proposed system—which a decade from now would give government payments to seniors so they could either buy private insurance or stay with the current system—is a way to save Medicare. Obama's camp says it would make healthcare more expensive for seniors and effectively end Medicare.
