Work on CTA to Slow Monday's Commute

Number of commuters to be limited by holiday work schedules

Ridership on the Chicago Transit Authority trains and buses is likely to be less than normal today, due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, but those who ride the rails on the North Side will face some extra challenges.

Customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

Maintenance work at the Fullerton station will affect Red, Brown and Blue line trains Monday, and customers are advised to allow extra travel time.

On the Red Line, customers traveling to the Loop must board and exit all trains on the Red Line side of the platform at the Fullerton station from 10:10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday while crews perform maintenance work, according to the CTA’s Web site.

Brown Line customers traveling to the Loop will board and exit all trains on the Red Line side of the platform at the Fullerton station from 10:10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday while crews perform construction to modernize and expand stations, the site said.

Blue Line customers traveling to the Loop will also board and exit all trains on the Red Line side of the platform at the Fullerton station Monday because of the work on the Brown Line, the CTA said.

At the Sheridan station, Red Line customers will board and exit trains on the outer tracks instead of the inner tracks from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday while crews perform maintenance work, the CTA said.

Additionally, Red Line trains in both direction will operate on the tracks normally used by Purple Line Express trains between the Wilson and Addison stations, the CTA said.
