The Week in Dining

Why just go out to dinner when you can make it a delicious event?

Over the next several days Chicago diners will have an array of enticing culinary choices.

The question is, how will you choose?

*Nacional 27 is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a series of 3-course menus ($27) that will highlight a different type of cuisine from the 27 Latin American countries that the restaurant showcases. The Prix Fixe comes with a specialty cocktail as well. Pop in between Monday, Aug. 3 and Saturday, Aug. 8 to try the "All About the Chayote" menu, sample the "Nuevo Latino Paella Party" lineup from Monday, Aug. 10 through Saturday, Aug. 15; then it's time for "Pork Lover's Paradise" from Monday, Aug. 17 through Saturday, Aug. 22; and they'll wrap up the event with "Gaucho Time" from Monday, Aug. 24 through Saturday, Aug. 29.

*What better way to experience a restaurant than by dining with its chef (and owner)? Diners can do just that at La Madia, when Jonathan Fox hosts his monthly Chef's Table on Wednesday, Aug. 5. During this intimate event, guests will be seated at the cozy pizza bar at this comfortable, yet upscale River North restaurant. There, you'll get to watch Fox as he whips up course after course, including a local farm-fresh egg and asparagus pizza with pecorino cheese, chicken Milanese, sweet corn salad and other dishes during this "tastes of summer" session Each dish is paired perfectly with a delish wine. La Madia's Chef's Table event will start at 7PM and costs $35 per person to attend. Call 312-329-0400 to reserve your seat at the bar.

*Do your part to help those less fortunate at a fun fundraiser at Tavern at the Park on Thursday, Aug. 6. The benefit is being held for the EGBOK (Everything's Gonna Be OK) Mission, a Chicago-based philanthropic organization that helps children in developing countries train and work in the service industry. Proceeds will help support Cambodia's Hope and the Palm Tree Orphanage. For a $40 donation, you'll get to enjoy hors d'oeuvres, beer, wine and specialty cocktails from 6-8PM.
