Raise a Glass to Tax Day

Bars/restaurants offer Tax Day specials

By the time April 15th rolls around, we'll all be looking for a culinary distraction -- or a stiff drink. Thankfully, several local restaurants and bars are serving up a variety of specials to help soften the Tax Day blow. Think $4.15 and $10.40 specials:

  • Oak Park restaurant Maya Del Sol allows customers to "Pay What They Think is Fair" on Tax Day. From 5 to 10 p.m., customers can decide what to pay for their meal. More than 250 people took advantage of the offer last year. Beverages excluded. If only we had that same option for our taxes.
  • Belly up to the bar at McCormick & Schmick's for their $10.40 dinner and drink special. You can also snag a $10.40 gift certificate to use on your next visit. And since the tax preparers will likely be busy Thursday, the restaurant officers offers a free dessert and a gift certificate on April 16th.
  • Cityscape Bar offers $4.15 cocktails on Tax Day all day including the IRS Blue Lemonade Martini with Skyy Citrus Vodka, Blue Curaco and Lemonade. Check out the free buffet from 5 - 7 p.m.
  • Need to drown your sorrows? HUB 51's lower level club SUB 51 offers half-priced bottles and champagne all night (10 p.m. to 2 a.m.), with DJ Konsept holding down the 1s and 2s. Reservations at 312.828.0051 or sub51@leye.com.
  • Cruise over to 10pin Bowling Lounge and take advantage of the Svedka Cocktails, Sam Adams Drafts and bowling games for only $4.15 each.
  • This is not a misprint. Carlucci is offering select bottles of wine and martinis for only $4.15. Do they have two-buck chuck on the menu? Apparently not, because that bottle list ranges from Malbec, Chardonnay, Merlot, White Zinfandel and Cabernet. You must order an entree to take advantage, but still ...
  • All games, food and beverages are tax free April 13-15 at Pinstripes, which means you're getting 10 percent off off your bowling or bocce. Strike!
