Another Mom Charged After ‘Home Alone' Fire

Woman's 7, 6 and 5-year-old sons escaped injury

Just a week after three children were killed in a house fire on the Southeast Side, another Chicago mother has been charged with misdemeanor endangering the life and health of a child after she allegedly left her children home alone.  In her absence, police say,  a fire started in their South Side home.

Details about where Sirjatullah Dawoudi, 28, of the 6600 of South Evans Avenue, was when the fire broke out have not been released.

The fire started at 7:15 p.m. in a back bedroom of the home while Dawoudi's three boys, ages 7, 6 and 5 were home alone, police said.
The boys were not injured in the fire, so the charge against the woman is considered a misdemeanor -- no death or catastrophic injury  occured during the incident, according to police. Dawoudi is slated to appear in Misdemeanor Court on Feb. 26.

Details about when the fire was extinguished were not immediately available.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
