Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has donated 1 million pounds ($1.8 million) to Britain’s Labour Party and praised the party’s fight against child poverty.
Rowling’s first ever donation to Labour gives a big boost to struggling Prime Minister Gordon Brown as the party begins its annual conference Saturday.
She says vulnerable families will fare much better under Labour than under the Conservatives.
