A 38-year-old father is accused of using his 2-week-old son as a shield in a standoff with police in Gary on Saturday.
The baby's mother allegedly escaped from her home where, she claimed, the father was holed up, drunk and making threats.
The child survived the ordeal and the man was taken into custody.
