Downtown Parking Costs on the Rise for 2009

It's yet another reason not to drive to work in Chicago

Like with most things these days, the cost of parking your car is getting more expensive.

A newly released survey finds the average price of parking in the Loop to be about $30, 20% more than it was in 2005.

The good news is that if you're willing to walk a ways, you can save some money.

Chicago Sun-Times survey of a broader downtown area found the average cost to park for 12 hours is $23.50, and the median rate -- half of the lots and garages charge less, half charge more -- is $24.

Anyway you slice it, however, getting to work -- if you still have a job -- is going to cost you more in 2009.
