Carpentersville Man Charged for Stabbing Friend to Death in 2011

A 73-year-old Carpentersville man was charged Saturday with first-degree murder after stabbing a woman—he claims was a close friend—to death in 2011.

Dennis Kuzara was charged with first-degree murder on two counts by Kane County State’s Attorney Joe McMahon for the Oct. 2, 2011 death of 57-year-old Isabella Trejo of Carpentersville, according to a statement released.

Officials said Trejo’s relatives were alarmed when she failed to show up for a family funeral that Sunday and immediately alerted security personnel at the apartment complex where she lived.

“The security officers entered Trejo’s apartment and found her in her bed, dead of an apparent stabbing,” the statement read.

Though investigation on this case has been ongoing since 2011, authorities say recent evidence, including DNA, directly connected Kuzara to Trejo’s homicidal death.

Kuzara appeared in court Saturday morning, in front of Kane County Associate Judge Robert Villa.

Kuzara’s bail was set at $2 million, with 10 percent ($200,000) to apply for bond.

If convicted, Kuzara faces a sentence of anywhere between 20 to 60 years in prison.

His next court appearance is scheduled to take place on December 12 at 9 a.m.
