A 15-year-old Chicago boy has been charged with murder in connection with the death of another teen found shot to death in a Southwest Side gangway earlier this month, police said.
Jovanny Martinez, appearing in criminal court Thursday wearing handcuffs, a T-shirt and khacki pants, was ordered held without bond in connection with the May 1 shooting of 15-year-old Alex Arellano.
Arrellano's body was found in a South Side gangway severely beaten and burned. An autopsy determined that he had died of a gunshot wound to the head.
According to prosecutors, Martinez was part of a group of gang members responsible for the killing, but, when he was taken into custody, he was in possession of a gun with bullets matching the one extracted from the victim.
Also, blood on Martinez's clothes matched Arellano's.
