American Film Institute Names Top 10 Films of 2010

The American Film institute (AFI) released a list of the Top Ten movies of the year.  Blockbuster movies like “Inception” and “Toy Story 3” topped the list, as well as independent contenders like the suspenseful “Black Swan” and James Franco’s at times painful-to-watch “127 Hours.” “The Social Network” graced the list as well.

AFI also voted on the top ten television shows of the year, including Emmy favorites “Mad Men” and “30 Rock.” Others on the list include Showtime’s “The Big C,” a comedy of sorts about a woman coping with terminal cancer, and “The Walking Dead,” AMC’s new zombie cult hit.

The majority of the films selected don’t come as surprises. Each has been well received by critics, fans, or—in rare cases—both parties. Think of it as sort of a litmus test for the Oscars.

According to Entertainment Weekly, special awards were also given to two films that didn’t quite make it on the list. First was “The King’s Speech,” which, as a British film, couldn’t qualify, and “Waiting for ‘Superman,’” which was a documentary.
