Bono underwent spinal surgery in May, which caused the band to postpone the North American leg of their tour until next year. U2’s 360 tour began in Barcelona in 2009.
"This band is like a family. It's a family business, U2. I am the prodigal son. I would like to thank my brothers for their patience,” Bono told the audience as he referenced the other guys in U2.
U2 opened the show with “Beautiful Day”; the set also included performances of two new songs “North Star” and Glastonbury.”
Paul McGuiness, U2’s longtime manager, told Reuters that Bono trained to get back into performance shape and the group had done some recording during his rehabilitation. "The doctors are very confident. They certified him fit to perform. It's really a very short time for a spinal injury."
He also said that U2’s current tour would probably generate $650-700 million when it ends next year.
