Below is the ad that Barack Obama cut for Sheila Simon when she was running for Mayor of Carbondale in 2007. The ad was recompense for an ad that Simon cut for Obama back when he was running for Senate in 2004.
Obama won his election. Simon lost hers. In fact, she lost the mayoral race to the incumbent, Brad Cole, who recently came in fourth for the GOP Lt. Gov. nomination. Just to give you an indication of her downstate clout. Or lack of it.
