New Poll Shows Tight Gap in Cook County Board President Race

Celebrate This Holiday Season in Lively St. Charles

The race for Cook County board president is shaping up to be closer than expected, a new poll by Victory Research of 701 people from Cook County March 13-March 15 shows. The pollster is employed by candidate Bob Fioretti.

    Toni Preckwinkle: 42 percent

    Bob Fioretti: 41 percent

    Undecided: 17 percent

The driving factor in the poll results is believed to be the backlash over the soda tax that was approved then repealed after public outcry. Last week, former President Barack Obama offered his endorsement for Preckwinkle. Today, Rev. Jesse Jackson campaigned with Fioretti and Preckwinkle refused requests for interviews or comment about Jackson's support for Fioretti.

Victory Research is owned by Rod McCulloch, who has more than 30 years experience as a pollster. More than 10 years ago he was accused of petition fraud and has faced criticism for polls since then. Other political strategists however have viewed his polls as credible.
