The Race: Republican Candidate for the 29th Legislative District

The Competition: Julie A. Morrison

The Buzz: Friedman served in the U.S. Navy as a helicopter pilot before attending medical school at the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He currently works as a managing partner at Premier Pediatrics in Lincolnshire and lives in Highland Park with his wife and five children.

Friedman identifies Illinois pensions, the economy and health care as his three main campaign issues as he runs for the state senate. He said his experience as a physician can give the legislature a more informed view of which medical costs can and cannot be feasibly reduced.

Friedman said he intends to vote to repeal state income tax increases. He also said he has read the Affordable Care Act in its entirety and says it should be repealed. To bring health care costs down, Friedman supports medical malpractice tort reform, expansion of health insurance options and improvements in education for doctors.
