The furor has died down a bit in Chicago after the Blackhawks dismissed former head coach Joel Quenneville, but the speculation league-wide about his next move remains as active as ever.

In his latest “31 Thoughts” column, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said that teams have begun quietly gauging Quenneville’s mindset after his firing, seeing whether he wants to coach again this season and what kind of situation he’s looking to step into if he does.

“Quietly, teams are trying to find out if Joel Quenneville wants to coach this season, and what situation(s) he prefers,” Friedman says.

Teams like the Los Angeles Kings have already made coaching moves this season, and others, including the St. Louis Blues and Edmonton Oilers, could follow, as their coaches remain on the hot seat after rough starts to the season.

Quenneville can afford to take his time, as he is under contract through the end of the 2019-20 season. He was making an average of $6 million per season when he was fired by the Blackhawks earlier this month.
